(edit) Sorry, couldn’t resist. I’ve got a good friend who’s a debian dev and I troll him mercilessly about how old woody got. Now he can safely shut me up. And, my linode has always run deb 8)

Sweet. I am in the middle of setting up a new image with Sarge……

    cacker:

I’m just interested, what command did you use to get a list of the packages + their description?

  7. Author Photo
  8. Author Photo
dpkg -l
9. Author Photo

    To list all installed packages.
dpkg -l
you can specify a particular package with (in this case whois)
dpkg -l whois
and you can also use wildcards
dpkg -l net*
Edit: You just beat me Xan

    Beat you!

But you win for completeness. 🙂

[quote:940a9b15af=”caker”]Updated the Debian Distribution to latest stable (Sarge).

    -Chris
The original 3.1r0 (June 6 release) had a security bug (the box not getting security updates). Users need to manually modify config after installation in order to receive security updates.

The updated 3.1r0a released on June 8 fixes this problem.

Only the CD ISOs had this problem, and I bet caker used the network install.

Just in case anybody’s got the “bad” version, though, it’s easily fixed:
If you have already installed a system using a 3.1r0 CD/DVD image, you do not need to reinstall. Instead, simply edit /etc/apt/sources.list, look for any lines mentioning security.debian.org, change “testing” to “stable”, and remove “# ” from the start of the line.
